A successful transfer of Linux distros

I was going to write a blog post on Thursday or Friday, but I unfortunately never had time to do so. (Nevermind that it's Sunday now).

For the last week or so, I've been thinking that Linux Mint isn't really doing it for me. One reason is, I read that Mint doesn't do great with Nvidia graphics cards (I have the horrible combination of Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU...). That made sense since, although Mint says my monitors are set to 144hz, it did not seem like it! and, unlike (rude term for Apple fans), I know there's a difference!

Regardless of my valid or invalid concerns about Linux Mint, the freedom of Linux is that you can do whatever the hell you want!

Sooo.... now that I'm more familiar with Linux, I decided to give CachyOS a try again! I will be writing a whole big longthought on my history with Linux and other takes on it... That I may or may not remember to link it here. But for now, I'll let you know that I tried CachyOS a little over a year ago (July 2024). It did not go well as I hadn't used Linux for many, many years.

discord message screenshot from user skyllzhogo, the creator of this website. the messages say, linux is such a learning experience. i'm trying to get the extra buttons on my mouse to work. windows: google razer naga drivers, download them, done. linux: first download the drivers from this dude, oh but wait, you need the program from these people first. you're on arch? alright, you gotta get a different package manager to install these different packages. everything takes at least 20 steps more than needed. unrestrainted summer fun.

The process this time went smoothly. The installer was great! Ubuntu and Mint caused me to triple check what drive I was formatting, but I didn't need to with this installer. I knew enough about Linux know that, for my purposes at this time, I preferred GNOME as my DE. I keep trying KDE and... it doesn't really hit for me. I have the KDE edition of Fedora on my flashdrive to install on my caviar PC (no, I will not explain that term at this time). So, I'll see if I can get KDE in a way I like it eventually!

I might try other DEs eventually, and other distros of course. Being on an Arch-based distro now, it's not as scary as I once thought. I actually understand what the AUR is, how to install stuff from there, and not to blindly run terminal commands from the internet.

Oh, right, let me share my current setup :3c

What I can say, I like the look of Ubuntu. I miss Unity

sorry, I have no idea how to make this image actually viewable

holy shit I just realized I saved this post as a fucking png.

Anyway, I've gotta get going and do some other stuff. I hope to add more to the website soon!
